How to practise IELTS cue cards
Read the cue card once, identify the main story, and use the one-minute preparation time to note a beginning, two or three details, and an ending. Then speak for up to two minutes. A clear sequence is more useful than trying to include every possible idea.
Turn the bullet points into a story
The prompts are guidance, not four separate questions. Connect the place, person, object, or event to one real memory and explain why it mattered. This gives the answer a natural timeline and makes it easier to continue when you need to speak for longer.
Avoid the most common cue-card mistake
The common mistake is writing complete sentences during preparation and then reading them from memory. Use short notes instead: names, places, actions, feelings, and one useful phrase. Your goal is to speak from the plan, not reproduce a script word for word.
Use a repeatable Part 2 practice loop
Plan for one minute, speak once without stopping, and check whether the answer had a clear opening, development, and ending. Repeat it with one stronger detail or transition. This practice loop improves timing and coherence while keeping the answer personal and adaptable.
